Are you talking about the "phantom touchpad" phenomenon, wherein the pressure of resting your hands on the keyboard while typing triggers movements on the touchpad, possibly causing focus loss and weird window focus changes, interfering with your work? You can alleviate this in a number of ways. One is to learn to type properly -- your hands are not supposed to rest on anything, but float in the air above the keyboard (that's how fast typists do it). Another idea is to disable touch-clicks in your touchpad's settings/properties. Even better, some modern touchpads have either drivers with settings that allow you to disable the touchpad while typing (they "work" to varying degrees), or a hardware switch that allows you to disable the touchpad outright at will. Why don't you phone and complain to HP and insist on a resolution? I have no idea why their laptops are so popular; I've yet to be impressed by one, but I guess it must be this kind of thing -- crapitude that customers don't complain about and just put up with -- that lets them get away with it. Good luck!
