Which brand of laptop would you get, gateway or hewlett-packard?
I am using it for college, surfing net, digital camera stuff, listening to music, etc. Which brand has the least problems overall? My two choices of laptops are between a Hewlett-Packard AMB Turion 64 mobile technology ML-37 model DV5224NR or a Gateway Platinum Edition Notebook with AMD TurionĂ¢„¢ 64 Mobile Technology ML-37 Model: MX6455

I would choose the HP because Gateway has slipped in the last few years. They've closed all their stores and you don't see ads like you did in the 90's.
3 :
Neither one. A dell explodes much better
4 :
Well, I have gateway and think it is awesome but HP is also real good. I would ask a computer expert or someone at the store about it.. they can help better. either way both laptops are great.
5 :
I would go for an Acer http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16834115250
6 :
Do you realy have to choose between the two? But anyway you may want to consider Dell brand... :~)
7 :
I have a gateway, im in college, and it has work fine. I love it. But it all depends in you.
8 :
Stay away from HP. Quality is poor and they are a bear to get repairs on once out of warranty. My wife's HP laptop went to the shop four times under warranty (yes, in ONE YEAR) and then went to an indepdent shop twice more before we got rid of it. Gateway is all right. Nothing great. Dell will cost less and probably work better. Best laptops (right now) are Lenovo Thinkpads and Sony Vaios. (Not counting Macs, but I'm assuming you want a pure PC -- even though current Macs CAN boot Windows...) Toshiba is a good bet for an inexpensive laptop as they are generally high quality and easy to configure. Dell is always a popular option, but keep in mind, there's a reason they're so cheap. The premium on a Thinkpad will get you better support and a better machine.

I have an HP, which has been sent back three times for repairs. Now it's past warranty and it needs to go in again - all for the same reason - where the ac adapter plugs in, it quits making the connection so the battery can't charge.
10 :
Skip those two and go with Dell
11 :
I have always found Toshiba to be a good value and highly reliable.
12 :
That's a tough question. I own an HP laptop that I am very happy with, and support about 150+ Gateway notebooks at my job. In my experience, Gateway has provided me with excellent service, high quality equipment, and an excellent website for help, driver upgrades, and technical support. I'd say Gateway, simply from my own extensive experience with them.
13 :
With so many choices out there I can see why people people have a difficult time choosing. I have used and worked on all brands and while Dell, Gateway and Hewlett Packard are great companies to deal with I have recently swayed my personal opinion over to HP. Technology changes so rapidly and the type of work I do I needed a laptop which was capable of being "a portable pc" with the latest and greatest. After extensive research Hp offered more bang for my buck and I absolutly love my new lap top. I chose a pentium 4 processor good stuff
14 :
I wouldnt go with either of these cheap pieces of shit.

Dell, iMac or hewlett packard?
Dell, iMac or hewlett packard? If I were to buy a new computer which of these three do you recommend?
I want something that has Windows XP professional. Does iMac use XP windows on their computers?

none of them, get better computers here, and cheaper : www.tiger-direct.com
2 :
of the 3 mac but any pc will do unless you have a specific thing you want to do . my advice buy a mid to high end system and get at least a 2 year warranty
3 :
Dell: I think macs are hard 2 use and they dont run Windows!!! HP's suck period.
4 :
Apple (iMac) uses OSX not XP so if you want XP (and who wouldn't want all those viruses and security flaws - keeps life interesting) then cross the iMac off your list. Nothing much to choose between Dell & HP as brands. You need to compare specific models against your desires and budget.

Honestly, I used to work for Hewlett-Packard before they became HP Invent (compact). Do not purchase one of their laptops, you'll regret it. This is not the old HP quality, this is cheap, made in China cra*. If you insist on tossing your money away, you'll not be able to use any resolution greater than 1024X768 without straining your eyes. Laptops don't make good gaming machines so you don't need the super, can power a 32 inch wide screen HDTV capability.
2 :
I would go with the 1680x1050 which is what I have. It is equivalent to 1280x1024 on a non wide screen monitor. I don't find it hard to read text and it makes it easier to work with to programs side by side such as excel and word. The differences between the brightveiw and ultra brightview is the ultra has two lamps behind the screen instead of one. I have not seen the ultra version so I cant tell you if it looks better but I have heard that it does. The drawback is that it will use more power so when you are running on the battery it won't last as long. The best way to tell the difference would be to go to best buy or a place like it that has hp laptops.
3 :
It seemed that you are bent in getting an HP. Just a suggestion, get one with three (3) years warranty from HP. You'll thank me for it. For me getting the Ultra Brightview is fantastic but just as a precaution, it uses a lot of battery power just to illuminate your 17" TFT Screen. What I can advise you is that look at all three monitors and just choose which one is kind to your eyes. Anyway you will be the one using them. Good luck and hope I helped a little!

You'll have to reinstall them, so make sure you have the original CD or original downloaded setup file.
3 :
you will need to install them again from the original disk. applications get installed into windows so you cant just copy and paste files across

according to the hp website their higher end and media center computers have a couple of options Choices: 1. ATSC-NTSC TV tuner with PVR, FM tuner, remote 2. Dual ATSC-NTSC TV tuner, PVR, 1 FM tuner, remote 3. ATI TV Wonder external digital cable tuner + internal TV tuner --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I recently purchased the HP M8300F its a great system and it has the Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1800 with combo ATSC/QAM So far I`ve had no issues with the Media Center and it has worked flawlessly, I`ve had this system since Feb 24th 2008, got it with the 22 in w2207h widescreen flat panel, all in all I paid just under $1,000.
