Here's the directions from HP: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=bph07145
2 :
When you turn it on, watch your screen carefully. It is F11 as best as I know. You only have about 3 seconds to push it though. Save your photos and music as you will lose all extras.

You'd be better off doing a complete rebuild from the bottom up, case and all. That is a very old machine.
2 :
You need a micro ATX motherboard. Go to this site: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?SrchInDesc=micro&Page=1&Category=20&N=2010200280+4025&Submit=ENE&Nty=1&SubCategory=280 It has a list of boards that will fit. You will probably need a better power supply than the one that is in it; at least a 350 watt. You can get that at this site also.
3 :
You cant upgrade the motherboard or PSU and several other components on a prebuilt PC like a Dell or HP. Why? Proprietary components (non standard) Your better off buying a new PC. Edit: Pentium 1 or higher?

I bought a used hewlett packard laptop
I bought a used hewlett packard laptop and I do not have administrative rights. Is there anyway to fix this?

1 :
reinstall windows
2 :
I assume the OS is Vista, just follow this link http://www.walkernews.net/2007/04/10/hack-windows-vista-logon-account-password/
3 :
Try contacting the person you bought the laptop from and see if they know the admin password. If the seller does not know it then, unfortunately, you will have to reinstall the operating system, regardless if it is Windows or Linux.
4 :
Never buy a used PC without a legal factory supplied copy of Windows or the factory Recovery Disks (AND the PC User Manual). Assuming you have one of them, RTFM. The User Manual explains exactly how to reset your PC to "Factory Fresh". This will remove all the former owner's passwords, installed programs and data.
5 :
sometimes you can reboot into safe mode and turn off the password. if you can't then you'll have to reinstall windows or whatever OS

i have had nothing but problems with all of my hp's. get a sony vaio, dell, or toshiba

I'm assuming you mean the basic dm3 model. Overall it's a pretty good laptop(about a 7 out of 10 stars on my scale). The battery life for it is tremendous, about 7+ hours of continuous video playback. It has 2 gigs of ram, a 500 GB hard-drive, and an Intel core 2 1.3GHz processor so it should handle nicely with minimal lag time. One downside is that the basic model does not come with an optical drive so if that will be an issue you might have to look to the sometimes pricey upgraded versions. The other downside is that the touch pad isn't the most comfortable thing to use, though a $10 wireless mouse solves that problem. Over-all it is a beautiful looking laptop, nicely thin and light (only about 4.1 lbs). I cannot say if I recommend it though because I don't know what your specific computing needs are. If you would like to provide a little more info about what you need it to do I might be able to better help you.
